How to handle for range or distance for dice rolls


I may have searched incorrectly but I couldn’t find how to handle multiple distance or range when rolling the dice

As for example for a shotgun with double barrel in Call of Cthulhu whose damage depends on the distance from the target.

You would use a stat that describes the distance, so if a weapon deals less damage the further away it is, {MaxDamage - Range}d6

Or something like that. I, unfortunately, don’t know the system, so I cannot give you specifics.
